Your McCormick House hosts
Your Kiwi hosts, Jeanne and Carl, are fifth generation New Zealanders who have an extensive knowledge of their amazing country. They both enjoy meeting guests from different cultures and look forward to sharing their local knowledge and welcome you to their home.
Carl, a designer of fine furniture, loves restoring early New Zealand colonial pieces. He has smaller craft items made from locally sourced recycled timbers, which can be purchased by guests. For relaxation, Carl tends to his chickens, herb and vegetable plots and breeds native palms.
Jeanne has a background in finance as a banking executive, an invaluable asset in the daily running of McCormick House. She is also very passionate about her garden and catering to the whims of their 2 cats, 'Libby' and 'Toby'.
Jeanne and Carl are wine and food lovers, living their dream close to Marlborough's famous wine region. They savour the delights of local wineries, restaurants, farmer's markets and art galleries.
Short bush walks which Jeanne and Carl enjoy, are easily accessed from McCormick House's doorstep. The Queen Charlotte Track, Abel Tasman and Milford are just some of the longer amazing walking tracks they have hiked.
“Thankyou so very much, wonderful people, house, chooks, cats and views.”

History of McCormick House
Carl and Jeanne named McCormick House after Donald McCormick, who emigrated from Scotland in 1854. Most of his working life was spent farming at Whatamango Bay near Picton in the picturesque Marlborough Sounds, retiring to Picton in 1914, where he had this large architecturally designed house built on a prominent half acre site.
Jeanne and Carl purchased Mccormick House in 2002 after searching throughout the country for a suitable property to start their Bed and breakfast business. After 2 years of extensive renovation, McCormick House was opened.
Today, McCormick House provides a subtle, tasteful balance of historic charm, retaining the original wood panelled doors, staircase and architectural features.
To ensure guest comfort, safety and security, many modern features have been installed.
A gallery of early black and white photographs are on display in the hallway for guests to view. Books on the McCormick family and local Picton and Marlborough history are also available in the guest library.
